sneak peek!

Spring is approaching (some places slower than others. Mn just got an ice storm...) & we're getting pretty antsy for green grass, no boots, and the sound of birds. But what I'm most excited for is seeing color! A gander out my window displays approximately 3 colors: white, grey, & brown. These lovely finds that will be in the shop this week brighten up my day & add a bit of color to my life. Why not show off all those great mugs you have with this nifty flower cup holder?

Weathered (check). Great color (check). Absolutely adorable (check). Hmmm I think we have it covered. Plus- What a great display item for books, plants, and misc...

We have an addiction to olives & pickles in our house. This mid century 3-piece server would be a perfect spot for those little bites at your next get together.

This glass vessel has the most beautiful design of white feathers and gold leaves. Where else would you want to put those valentine flowers your getting?

The Jumpsuit: Friend or Foe?

Lately I've been drawn to the jumpsuit. Cousin to the bib overall, this look can be really stunning and look quite good when done right. That being said, it could go horribly wrong (flashbacks of my mom at the roller rink when I was a kid come to mind...). I'm not sure If I could pull it off, but these are tempting me to try....What do you think of the jumpsuit? {The color is one of the many things I like about this one. By Hayden-Harnett}

Are you talking to moi?

If loving Piggy was wrong, I don't wanna be right. Kermie was wrong about about one thing though, it IS easy being green. Or at least taking little steps toward it. I know it has been the hot issue (no pun intended) for a while now and environmentalism has swept the nation, but I think it still seems daunting to many of us. Sure I recycle, try to buy non-toxic cleaning products, bring in my own bag when shopping (most of the time), turn the water off while I brush my teeth, use crazy spiral light bulbs. But I also can't get away from buying zip-lock baggies, paper towels by the multi-pack and have my old appliances that guzzle up water and electricity.

Of course my favorite way to be green is buying, dressing and decorating vintage. My most prized possessions (that aren't from my mom) are the ones I hunted down to find; digging through piles of stretched out sweaters and plastic gnawed on sippy-cups. Vintage and re-purposed goods are a fantastic way to be unique and not rely so heavily on newly manufactured products.

However, the coup de grace of any vintage find is if it helps reduce your dependency on other products that are wasteful or expensive. Two fantastic examples that we have in the shop right now are vintage pyrex dishes--using them instead of tupperware, not only cuts down on the amount of plastic floating around the planet, it also makes you seem oh-so-domestic, in a Carol Brady kind of way. My other favorite find that I have promised myself to start incorporating into my daily life is cloth napkins. They make any meal or snack seem a little more special--plus they will save your wallet in the long run. We fly through paper towels like crazy at home; I think this will help at least a little.

So no, I can't afford a hybrid car quite yet and my clothes aren't all made of hemp, but every little bit can help and it actually feels good to be responsible (if you look cute while doing it).

In my mind I am very Kelly Wearstler-esque: eccentric, polished, glamazony rock-chic, in a bohemian way.

In reality I rarely take off my winter boots at the office and haven't had a working bathroom sink in over a year.

However, I love having touches of the divine around me. These items we have in the shop right now speak to that aesthetic in me: interesting, cool and worldly, in a refined 1970s Bianca Jagger kind of way-gilded botanical, hot pink agate cocktail ring, golden archways. Hmmm, as I blog in my paint-splattered sweats...a girl can dream can't she?

M is for Mid-Century

I think whenever I stumble upon some mid-century pieces my heart skips a beat. There's something about the sleek lines, stylized structure & industrial edge (especially when it comes in contact with wood) that makes it so appealing. Annie & I have some great new items that meet these guidelines in our shop and coming soon. Be sure to grab them while you can!

I'm back from my sunny vacation, which means back to work! I had the chance to pick up some lovely mid century items that Annie & I will be putting in the shop soon. Sorry it has been a while, Kate took a fun vaca to AZ and left me all alone to freeze my tail off. The upside is I get to take a stab at blogging. I am computer un-savvy. But with our country's new found hope and determination I decided "Yes I Can"! So, we will be putting up some great new finds this weekend and I was thinking about how winters are the perfect time to have a cozy cocktail party. The no-pressure kind, with card games and snacks, maybe even slippers instead of stillettos. These funny party napkins could be just the thing to spice up your usual January gatherings.

Sneak Peek!

This week we will putting up some fun new stuff! Sorry we haven't posted in awhile, but Annie & I have been busy working on our homes. We both are fixing up our houses & can't wait to show you how their coming along! That will have to be for later though, since they won't be done a for awhile....boo.

Next week I am going on Vacation to Arizona to run the Rock N Roll Marathon with my husband. We're pretty excited to be in warm weather since Duluth is below zero right now! Since we'll be m.i.a. I won't be posting until we get back in case your wondering where we disappeared too. Now on to our sneak peak....
